  Procedures carried out include, but are not limited to:
  Dental extractions

  Removal of impacted 
  teeth
  Involves

  erupt

  commonly
  the
  third
  molar 
  (wisdom) teeth but other teeth can also get impacted.
  Removal
  may
  be
  simple,
  or 
  might
  involve
  cutting
  of
  bone

  gums
  and
  placement
  of 
  stitches.
   
  Removal of retained 
  roots
  Badly
  decayed
  teeth
  might 
  break
  off,
  leaving
  root
  fragments
  inside

  bone.
  These 
  need to be removed. 
  Incision and drainage of gums infections
  Gums

  soft
  tissue
  infections
  in

  mouth

  uncommon.
  They

  require
  incision
  and
  drainage 
  of

  pus
  for
  healing
  to 
  occur. 
  Bone defect grafting 
  surgeries  
  Infections

  developmental 
  defects

  lead
  to
  bone 
  defects
  that
  may
  require
  bone
  grafting
  to
  restore
  normal 
  bony contour.
  What to expect afterwards?

  Discomfort
  may

  depending
  on

  of
  procedure 
  carried out
  •
  
  Bite
  firmly
  on
  the 
  gauze
  placed,
  to 
  control the bleeding 
  •
  
  Place
  an
  ice
  bag
  on 
  the
  cheek
  
  to
  reduce 
  swelling
  •
  
  Avoid
  taking
  hot 
  foodstuffs for 24 hours. Take soft foods for a day or two.
  •
  
  Tooth
  sensitivity
  may
  occur
  in
  some
  patients,
  the 
  duration and severity may vary from person to person
  •
  
  Over
  the
  counter
  pain-killers
  may
  be
  required.
  De-
  sensitizing
  toothpastes
  and
  mouthwashes
  may
  be 
  used.
  •
  
  Avoid smoking. 
  •
  
  Brushing
  and
  Flossing
  on
  the
  surgical
  area
  may
  be 
  delayed
  according
  to
  the
  procedure
  carried
  out,
  and 
  follow
  the
  instructions
  as
  given.
  Other
  areas
  may
  need 
  to be brushed gently.
  •
  
  Dietary
  restrictions,
  if
  any
  given,
  may
  need
  to
  be
